I don't have anything constructive to add, but I am definitely interested in seeing what other companies are doing because this is something we have also discussed.

Looking forward to feedback with interest.

We currently have 3 bagging machines.  2 from Sharp and our latest one from Tension.  Both of the printers on the baggers are integrated with ROP.  These machines will dramatically make a huge impact on efficiency.  Matt Wade is out today but I will have him add some more information to the post on Monday and I am sure he would be happy to discuss in more detail.

All 3 baggers are the Sharp Max 20.   We use one for inbound product that will be put away in our robotic picking system and two for outbound packages.  Two of the baggers are configured for a vertical drop and the third uses a horizontal placement of the product with a short conveyor attached.  Both styles have their advantages so you will need to assess which makes the most sense for your operation.  Like Jon mentioned, ROP integrated the printers for the shipping labels.  Our operators can process over 1,000 single item shipments in a day through vertical bagger.  The link below has some short videos that show both styles.  Feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions.

Did you look at any machines from Accutech/Automated Packaging Solutions?

With the integration, what did you do about the scale component of the shipment audit process? And what kind of cost was associated with that integration?

We did not look at those solutions.

For the two outbound baggers the item is still placed on the scale when "Close Box" is clicked.  At that point, the label is printed on the bag (and we have a pack slip print on a 4x6 printer).  The item is placed into the printed bag and the bag cycle is triggered.

I cannot recall what the integration cost, but I don't think it was too pricey since they already supported the printer language.  If you are looking at a different machine they will need the specs to scope out the project.
