Base ship method on items being sent at that time

Currently the selection of ship methods in the carrier class mappings is based on evaluating the entire order, and whilst this is unlikely to change for the address fields, we regularly make more than one despatch against a single order.  This means that the weights and values used to calculate the shipping method often end up being less efficient than they should be.

 
I think that allowing a configuration option to select either the Order weight/ value or the Despatch weight / value in the Carrier Class Mappings Screen would be very useful and allow us to ensure the carrier class is appropriate for the goods being sent at that time.

    Wow, I was under the assumption that this already occurred during ship audit. If not, I agree this is definitely an issue. 

    Perhaps this is best incorporated as a part of the coming Ship Rate "Optimization" functinality?

    We need this feature as well.

    How do you address the issue of commercial address vs residential address? We used to ship via Ship Station and it would determine if the address was commercial or residential for us and pick the right service to ship such as Ground vs Home Delivery.  Do you guys face this same problem?

    We no longer ship with FedEx, but we used to when we first went live on RetailOps. I'm not sure there is a way to do it correctly based on the USPS database for the address, but if you have a name in the Company field you can configure your ship services within System Config to map correctly to Ground vs. Commercial.

    Not sure if that's the best way to handle it, perhaps someone from RetailOps can weigh in.

    Thank you Jason for the idea. I didn't see how I could implement that idea on RetailOps. I will reach out to them for assistance on this issue.

    Hmm, you're right, I just reviewed Ship Services in System Config and that's not one of the items to match a rule against.

    I'm almost positive we had this working correctly, so hopefully someone @ Retailops can help, or another user shipping with FedEx can offer some insight.

    Thanks Jason for the help! I really appreciate it. I am a new user and learning to fully understand all the features that RO has to offer and then implement it for the company and train others how to use it.
